DEANS SUPER OBSCURE FACTS ABOUT DISNEY PLANES
- Fun Fact 1: On June 11th, 2011, the teaser trailer for the first Planes movie was leaked, featuring outdated helmet designs for Bravo & Echo, & Dusty was originally voiced by Jon Cryer.
- Fun Fact 2: In an old DVD trailer from around mid-2012, It features a lot of outdated versions of scenes that are fairly similar to the final movie, but were cut, & what sounds like an earlier version of ‘Nothing can stop me now”. As well as different takes for several voice clips, cut dialogue, & more different voice actors, such as Dusty, who still had Jon Cryer as his temporary voice actor.
- Fun Fact 3: There are storyboards created by Maddie Taylor for the canceled Planes 3 showing El Chupacabra following his crush around Buenos Aires with his brother.
- Fun Fact 4: Speaking of El Chupacabra, in several storyboards for Planes: Fire & Rescue, it shows El Chupacabra at some sort of concession stand at the Fusel lodge, suggesting that he was supposed to make a brief cameo in Fire & Rescue.
- Fun Fact 5: On a developer blog from someone who worked on Planes: Fire & Rescue, they revealed never before seen behind-the-scenes stuff, such as W.I.P CG effects, such as fire effects, & physical 3D prints of the actual CG models from the movie! Although, as of now, NO ONE knows where these have ended up.
- Fun Fact 6: Planes: Fire & Rescue’s teaser trailer is FULL of scrapped scenes, including a MOTHERLOAD of cut dialogue, & a unique rock demo song, that has no vocals, & has never been released to the public. I think that this could be a VERY early rendition of what would become “All In”, but there is little to NO information that can confirm nor deny this. Then again, this teaser trailer came out only 1 month after the first movie had hit theaters, it might just be a test song used solely for the trailer.
- Fun Fact 7: There are a few errors in the 2 Planes movies, in the first movie, when Dusty says “1-1000, 2-1000-oh, that’s enough.”, at least, in the full movie release, it gets cut off, so he only gets to say “1-1000, 2-1000-oh, that’s enou-”, & it gets even weirder because in the sneak peek, it’s NOT cut off, this ONLY happens in the final movie! Later in the movie, it shows Dusty flying with his eyes closed, which is an error, because in promo art, it shows the same scene with his eyes open. This also happened in the trailers as well. For Fire & Rescue, after the climax, Dusty’s eyes are stretched WIDE open, which just doesn’t look quite right.
- Fun Fact 8: Ripslinger’s color scheme was originally Purple & Green! And it shows up in almost EVERY storyboard! Heck, this design was changed so late that he literally had his original colors put on his model ready to be used in the movie, but then somewhere during development in mid-2012, he was changed to Black & Green.
- Fun Fact 9: In some early pieces of concept art for the first Planes movie, Dusty & Skippers original number was 4! Dusty while he still sported this number sometimes shows up in the Art of Planes book.
- Fun Fact 10: In the Arabian Egyptian dub of the first Planes movie, the credits version of “Nothing can stop me now” doesn’t have any lyrics, making this one of, of not, the ONLY official instrumental.
Tomfoolery Theory: Dusty has a unique render art for His Midnight Flyers diecast, but it looks a lot like stock art they would use for a movie/promo, so I’m speculating that there was supposed to be a Midnight Flyers short, but was scrapped. That’s just a theory though.
